One afternoon at sunset in the old city of Jaffa, Israel,
I thought it'd be fun to watch the sun lowering itself into the Mediterranean
while playing a little blues. Little did I know, an elderly Arabic women selling her wares not to far away had been filming me.
She was kind enough to send me this little video after giving me a little hug of thanks.
It is I who thank her for capturing this fleeting moment.
From "Prayers & Dreams" when Abraham considers sacrificing his son.
I like to think that it was his wife that danced the vision
that ultimately swayed him in a different direction.
"Darlin, I don’t care if there’s no hope in sorrow
While bleeding out these feelings I follow
I don’t know what else to do…"
There is nothing like the little textured bounce I get when my fingers touch
those top three nylon strings. It's as close to drumming I can get while playing a guitar.
This music might be decidedly a wonderful reggae vibe, but I always somehow find myself leaning back into the blues.
The dancers danced the idea, that when we fight with others,
we fight within ourselves. When we find love within ourselves,
peace with others can more easily be found.
Creation. Innocence. Play. Survival. Love. Birth.
Whether in Manhattan or the Garden of Eden,
the cycle of life.
